New Food Day

Ever since Tyler was six months old, we've been introducing new foods to him about every 4 days. I find myself looking forward to these days. It's so exciting to be able to give him a new taste or texture that he has never before experienced in his life. It's exciting to see how he will react, and it's also fun to add another food to the list of things he has tried. Plus, he always looks so cute in his high chair, with his bib on and his little feet sticking straight out, waiting to see what Mommy will bring. Usually, I just choose a jar of food from the pantry. (Maybe someday I'll be choosing from my variety of purees in the freezer, but I have yet to try it again since the squash.) Today, I was feeling adventurous. I had read in my Super Baby Food book that avocado is a good baby food because it has all the good fats that are excellent for brain development. So, I mashed up part of an avocado for him instead of the usually jar food. It was kind of funny. I felt like I was feeding my baby guacamole. He ate it, but he didn't seem all that thrilled. He was pretty leisurely about it. You can tell when he really loves something because suddenly he isn't leisurely at all. He has his mouth open for the next bite before he even finished the one before. Not the case with the guacamole. Oh well, it seems very exotic to add avocado to the list of new things.

I wish I could have seen his sweet face and the cute little expression he had while having his first avocado experience. I think I was an adult before I had my first avocado. That would explain the brain development thing although I didn’t give avocados to any of you as babies and all of you are brilliant!

All those “firsts” are so much fun. It’s like reliving everything through your baby’s eyes. How fun for you AND him. Wait until he starts pointing things out on walks. I remember you would get so excited and although you couldn’t say “bug” or “flower” or “bird”, your eyes would light up and you would point and say “OH!”. I noticed things with you that I never would have seen by myself.

I know you will enjoy all those experiences with Tyler. I still enjoy the memories.
