I can remember the excitement of having brand new ones when we first moved into our home almost 6 years ago. It was such a treat after living in apartments since college. I now had my very own brand new potties to take care of. I was determined to keep them shiny and clean like that forever. There was no way I was going to let them get gross. At the time, Todd and I didn't have any kids yet. We didn't really use the second bathroom at all. We sometimes used the half bath, but not often. When it came time to clean them, I would wonder how it was that they had a line of dirt after not being used. That's when I decided that they had to be used more often to stay fresh. I would make it a point to use all of the potties in the house equally so that none of them would feel left out and get icky from sitting alone too long.
When Tyler was born, I was excited for him. He would have his very own bathroom. When he started potty training, he didn't use the big one for such a long time. He preferred the itty bitty one on the floor. It was just his size. Now that he's a big boy and uses the big one, it gets plenty of use and needs plenty of cleaning.
All of these thoughts came through my head as I cleaned my potties for the last time. I never realized a person could become attached to such a thing. I still don't enjoy cleaning them, but I am thankful for each one that I have taken care of all these years. Good-bye potties.
