Since Tyler is almost a year old (crazy, I know!) and has been spitting his pureed baby food back out at me, I have come to the realization that it may be time to move on to more "big boy food." I have been giving him more diced things to feed himself, but he gets them one piece at a time. If I try to put more then that on the tray, he puts them all in his mouth as fast as he can and forgets to chew.
I decided to try something new at breakfast today. I gave him diced peaches and half a slice of cheese toast. I put the bowl of peaches down first, expecting him to pick up the entire bowl and dump them out. He was so excited! He reached in, carefully selected his peach, and never picked up the bowl! He was so cute. After he had eaten a couple peaches, I gave him the toast too. He picked it up and took a little bite. He looked so grown up. Then he carefully set it down and picked up his cup to take a drink. I was practically in tears. It was such an emotional moment watching my little baby eat his big boy breakfast so carefully. I could tell he was so proud of himself.
The funny thing is that he started pulling off the crust and making a little pile on the side of his tray. He must know he has a mommy who refuses to cut the crust off for him. It is a personal belief that kids should be eating the crust too. What is so awful about the crust anyway? His first experience with a whole piece of bread, and already he dislikes crust.
There is one thing I learned from the "big boy breakfast"...it takes MUCH longer then when Mommy is feeding him. An hour later he was finally winding down. I am happy that he chews so well, so I won't complain.

That's so much fun!!
Keep using those dishes too. It makes cleanup so much easier. You can pick up small plastic plates really cheap in the summer isles at the stores.
